Film Showing on Tuesday, 20th September at 7.30pm

On Tuesday 20th September at 7.30pm at the Unite Office, 238 Holdenhurst, Road Bournemouth, BH8 8EG, Autonomy Films in co-operation with UNITE the Union present 2 films from the 1970s showing what can happen when people get together in hard times. Entry is £3 (or less if you can’t afford it).

ARISE YE WORKERS – 1973. 25 mins – was made to support the dockers’ fight
against redundancies and wage cuts caused by containerisation. Mass action secured the release of five jailed dockers (the ‘Pentonville Five’).

BEHIND THE RENT STRIKE – 1973. 25 mins – is set in Kirkby New Town, Liverpool in 1973, when 3000 residents protested against the Housing Finance Bill. It shows the residents’ violent clashes with the police and their appalling social conditions and job prospects.
